Between 2022 and 2023, Datashiil designed and deployed a national digital framework for CARE Somalia's Adolescent Girls' Education in Somalia (AGES) programme, monitoring enrolment and transition.

Scale and accuracy

  • More than 50,000 child records managed in one system.
  • Real-time dashboards that improved data accuracy for 2,000+ girls in Accelerated Basic Education (ABE) programmes.

Three lessons

1. Design for the transition, not just the snapshot. Tracking a learner from ABE into formal schooling requires stable identifiers and consistent definitions across years.

2. Make dashboards answer management questions. Indicators were defined with operational definitions agreed with the programme team before any chart was built.

3. Protect the data of children. Anonymisation, role-based access and child-safeguarding protocols were applied as standard.
